New Ford Ranger Super Duty Tows Nearly 5 Tons But You Can’t Have It

  • The new Ranger Super Duty hauls more weight and is more capable off-road.
  • Power comes from an upgraded 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 with a 10-speed auto.
  • It’ll be offered in markets outside the US in multiple configurations and cab sizes.

The current Ford Ranger has already proven to be a runaway success for the carmaker, but it’s not just happy to sit back and watch it trounce the competition. Say hello to the new Ford Ranger Super Duty, a new version built for heavy-duty use that’s even more capable. It will be sold in select markets, including Australia, but won’t be coming to the United States.

The beefed-up Ranger sits higher than a regular model, has a wider track width with flared fenders, and sits on new 33-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires. Ford’s design team has penned a new hood for it, complete with ‘Super Duty’ text. All Super Duty models also come standard with a frame-mounted steel front bumper, attachment points for extra driving lights, and a front bash plate.

Review: The 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor Is An Absolute Riot

Elsewhere, the new Ranger comes standard with a custom-made snorkel, helping to ensure it can tackle deep water crossings without issue. There are also large wing mirrors. But, perhaps the most important thing about the Ranger Super Duty is that it can now tow 9,921 lbs (4,500 kg), up from the 7,716 lbs (3,500 kg) of the regular model.

Ford will build Single Cab Chassis, Super and Double Cab Chassis, and Double Cab versions of the truck. Not only will it be perfect for private buyers needing a new work vehicle, but the Ranger Super Duty can suit emergency services, too. It was developed with input from fleet managers, private services, and more than 50 companies, leading to the creation of what could be the most well-rounded Ranger yet.

No Ordinary Ranger

Some had hoped the Super Duty would get the same engine as the Ranger Raptor, but that hasn’t turned out to be the case. Instead, it will be sold exclusively with the same basic 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 as lesser Ranger models. However, Ford says this engine has been upgraded to meet heavy-duty emissions standards. No power and torque figures have been announced, but it will remain coupled to a ten-speed automatic transmission.

Plenty of other changes have been made to the truck. For example, a 130-liter (34-gallon) fuel tank is fitted as standard, and Ford has added front and rear differential locks, boosting its off-road capabilities. The chassis has also been reinforced to support the extra towing capabilities. One particularly cool feature is onboard scales that can estimate the load in the bed.

Ford hasn’t released pricing yet, and there’s still a bit of a wait before you’ll see one on the road. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026, with more details to follow closer to launch. Until then, American truck fans will just have to watch jealously from the sidelines—or start planning that trip to Australia.
