- This 2025 M850i Gran Coupe sold for $80K with 2,100 miles after originally costing $110K.
- German luxury models like this tend to lose value quickly even with minimal mileage.
- The buyer got a strong deal on a powerful sedan with a high-end, well-equipped cabin.
If you’re trying to find a good-looking modern BMW, your options are getting pretty thin, but the 8-Series still pulls it off. And in Gran Coupe form, it’s not just easy on the eyes; it’s practical too. A recent auction result also shows there’s some solid value to be had if you’re willing to go pre-owned.

This particular 2025 M850i xDrive Gran Coupe started life with an MSRP of $110,260. That’s no pocket change, but like many big German luxury sedans, depreciation hits fast and hard, and this one was sold for just $80,000 on Bring a Trailer.

We all know that many German cars lose an extraordinary amount of value as soon as they’re driven off a dealership lot, but losing $30,000 so quickly has got to be a bitter pill to swallow for the original owner of this M850i xDrive. The car had only been driven 2,100 miles (3,379 km) at the time of the sale and sold for far less than any BMW dealership would dare sell a demo model with similar miles under its belt.
Sure, the buyer walked away with a healthy discount compared to buying a brand new 8-Series, but don’t expect this to be the end of the depreciation story. Like most modern cars, it’s still headed downhill in value.
What the Market’s Saying
In November 2024, bidding on a 2023 M8 Competition Gran Coupe reached $82,000 on Bring a Trailer. While that fell short of the reserve, it indicates how much people are willing to spend, even though it had been driven just 18,000 miles (~28,900 km). In a couple of years, we’d not be shocked if this M850i xDrive Gran Coupe was worth somewhere in the $60,000 range.
That said, there’s a lot to like here. It might not wear a full M badge, but the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 under the hood still dishes out 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. Power goes through an eight-speed automatic and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system, making this a luxury cruiser with serious straight-line credentials.
Inside, the M850i doesn’t get BMW’s latest curved panoramic display, so it’s not quite up to date with the newer models. But the cabin remains a genuinely nice place to be, featuring Ivory White Merino leather and a Harman Kardon audio system to help drown out any thoughts about future resale value.
